Brickyard 400

At the racetrack on Friday practice was called off because of persistent rain.....The IMS crew on Saturday allowed everyone to go about the grandstands to check out different views.....Here ,the son and I went to the first turn spotter platform......WOW!!!!! A three hour practice and then later on qualifying.....Reed Sorenson won the pole.....

I just had to take a pic of the Southwest Vista, where we will be watching the race from.............

We changed our view again here .....Sitting in what we referred to as the rust roost,,,,,high above turn one......This is where we watched qualifying from.......

We changed our view again here trying out the lower section of the front stretch......

The winner of the race on Sunday,,,,Tony Stewart getting inspected by the crews after a practice run.......

From the upper deck on the front stretch looking towards turn one......

Drivers waiting in line for qualifying ........

If you look real hard you can spot a sleepy head under the rear on the cot.........

Took our bikes and rode back and forth to the track everyday........What a blast that was......It was easier than walking the few miles for sure.........

The campground was cooking non stop 24..............Here is a quiet moment on race day morn.........

I took this trip to see and share my first NASCAR experience with one of my sons......I still prefer the IRL .....The camping and the experience at the track is a great one........We got home early on Monday...........

phill...looks like a very good trip. all the seat views are great except for the low ones on the front straight. i sat near there for an indy 500 once and did not enjoy it much. and up top can be scary after a few beers. looks steep when you are up there. how was the camping? i had to go into work so i "watched" the online scoring of the race...go montoya...got home for the final 9 laps. that place separates the real nascar drivers from the rest....are you going next year?

Greg, the camping was ONE BIG party..........It was fun tho........I prob will not go back to the Brickyard 400........IF I go to the 500 this year I am def going to camp........Montoya did have a good car..........

I have one or two bad things to say about the race.......

1) There was a big wreck in the short chute between 1 and 2, and it took the safety crew awhile to get there......Drivers were going thru debris for quite some time......IRL seems quite a bit faster in that respect......

2) This is the biggie......
With less than 20 laps to go T Stewart had a comfortable lead, and a fan threw a Fosters out onto the track on turn one......J Gordon and a few other drivers were complaining of debris on the track.......NO YELLOW!!!!!! IF the right thing would of been done a yellow should have been waved....Our whole section was standing and pointing and we had spotters up above us and nothing......I was kinda disappointed in that.......I am looking forward to this weeks IRL race in Michigan........

It was loud,,I dunno the diff..I wear a headset.........The exhaust was terrible......The straight northern wind in our face with exhaust sucked.........
